Must Read Books for Entrepreneurs: Part 1

Who the heck is Gary Vaynerchuk?!

6D91714AAEIf you haven’t heard of Gary Vaynerchuck, you should head to YouTube right now and check out one of his videos. He is one of the most inspirational and downright entertaining people I have ever listened to. He currently runs VaynerMedia which helps some of the biggest companies in the world with their social media marketing. In November of 2013, he released a book called Jab, Jab, Jab, Right Hook. This book explains how to tell your story via social media.

Quick Summary

In this book, Gary explains the concept of Jab, Jab, Jab , Right Hook. The idea is to constantly be giving value to your customers and prospects (jabs) before asking them to buy your stuff (right hook). We see advertisements everywhere we go these days so people that are constantly asking us to buy stuff are just plain annoying. We need to grab our customer’s attention and bring value to them. Gary shows how to properly execute this strategy across all the major social media platforms in an easy to follow format. He takes actual posts and explains what is good/bad about them. The book is very simple but provides a ridiculous amount of information on what we should and shouldn’t be doing.

Why Should I Read this Book?

I always hear people say things like “social media marketing is dead” or “you already missed your chance to have success marketing on social media sites”. These comments are absolute nonsense. Social media has only been relevant for about 10 years now and it’s not going anywhere. Next time you are around a group of people, take a second to observe how many are on their cell phones. Chances are if they are looking at their phone, they are on one of these social media sites. As a business, if we want to get in front our customers or prospects, we NEED to have a presence on the social media sites. The companies that are able to execute a strong social media presence, in my opinion, are the ones that are going to consistently succeed over the long run. If you don’t have this book in the mail tomorrow, you are making a huge mistake.

My Favorite Quote

“Today, getting people to hear your story on social media, and then act on it, requires using a platform’s native language, paying attention to context, understanding the nuances and subtle differences that make each platform unique, and adapting your content to match.”
