The other night I got a message from Gmail saying that I had too many emails and ran out of storage. I guess that’s what happens when you don’t delete your emails. Ever. Anyways, I had an old email folder from when I first started my business and I couldn’t help but read a few. These emails were literally from day 1: coming up with a business name, filing for an EIN, all that good stuff. Reading through those emails was surreal for me. If I am being honest, it made me feel strange. I felt bad for the person writing those emails, who was trying to figure out how to start a business. I had zero clue what I was doing and I wanted to teleport back to that time and help that kid.
Reading those old emails humbled me so much. I have learned so many things over the years and have come so far. I am telling you all of this for 2 reasons.
First, I want to encourage you. I had emails brainstorming with people about the name of the company. I had emails where I found a deal on business cards for $25 because we had no revenue. I also found some emails from clients where I landed a tax return for $100. I put myself right back in that position, remembering how excited I was landing that client. I tell you all of this because you don’t need to know everything about starting/running a business. You just need to start. Like I said, I had zero clue what I was doing. I just went for it and figured it out on the fly. You can do the same.
Second, I want to help you. Plain and simple. Do I have all the answers? Absolutely not. But I have been through a lot, started from the bottom and now I’m here. (I hope one Drake fan reads this and gets a chuckle). But seriously guys, I can help. When I started this blog series called “My Journey”, the goal was to tell my story so that you would tell me yours. Not only do I want to hear your story, I’d welcome the opportunity to be a part of it. Even if we aren’t engaged to do work for your company, I still want to help you.
